What Will The Office Visit Be Like?
Our practice is committed to providing you and your family with safe, gentle, high-quality dental care. We understand that you or your child may feel anxious about visiting the dentist. We are sensitive to your needs, and it is our goal to make you feel comfortable visiting our practice while providing the best care possible.
Your first visit is all about you — your comfort, your happiness and your health.
During your first visit, we will review your dental and medical history, and take dental films of your teeth and mouth. We will also assess your sleep habits with a questionnaire to look for signs of sleep disordered breathing. One of our hygienists will perform an intraoral exam to screen for any abnormalities of the oral tissues and will evaluate your teeth and gums for any signs of gingivitis or periodontal disease. They will discuss the type of cleaning recommended for you.
Dr. Roberts will then meet with you and perform a head and neck exam and cancer screening, review the intraoral exam, sleep screening and dental films and then check every tooth for any cavities or early signs of tooth decay. She then will discuss any findings and help you create your own individual treatment plan and answer any questions that you may have.
We understand that you have a busy schedule, so when you are preparing for your visit, please remember that your appointments can last between 45 and 90 minutes. Make sure that you are aware of this, as we want to ensure we give you the best possible experience that we can.
What Should I Bring To My First Visit?
Bring your smile, but also remember to bring your completed paperwork and your insurance card with you to your appointment. If you have any questions about your insurance coverage, it is advised to verify with your employer before your appointment. Our office staff is happy to help with any questions you may have.

Preventive Care
Preventive dental care is important throughout your life, no matter your age. By practicing good oral hygiene at home and scheduling regular checkups, you can help keep your smile bright and healthy for many years to come, hopefully for life! Here are a few simple ways that you can prevent the build-up of plaque and cavities:
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Use fluoride toothpaste to remove food particles and plaque from the tooth surfaces.
- Clean between your teeth by flossing at least once a day. You can also use a mouthwash to help kill bacteria and freshen your breath. Decay-causing bacteria can linger between teeth where toothbrush bristles cannot reach. Floss and mouthwash will help remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gum line.
- Eat a balanced diet and try to avoid extra-sugary treats. Nutritious foods such as raw vegetables, plain yogurt, cheese or fruit can help keep your smile healthy.
- Remember to schedule regular checkups every six months for a professional teeth cleaning.
- If you play sports, be sure to ask us about special mouthguards designed to protect your smile.
If it has been six months since your last dental checkup, then it is time to contact us and schedule your next appointment! The goal of the appointment is to make it as painless and as comfortable as possible. As a new patient you will notice very quickly that we are a different dental office. You will see top-of-the-line equipment and a great dental staff that care about you as a human being. To us, you are not a number but an individual that has a life and has choices to make. We do understand that you could choose a dental company anywhere else, but you have chosen to give Healthy Smiles a try. We are very thankful that you have trusted us to work and clean something as precious as your teeth.
